Tennis Ball Breaks All Records

The 9th Annual MTEF Tennis Ball & Auction Gala, held Saturday, September 29th at Milwaukee County Zoo’s Peck Pavilion, was an overwhelming success raising over $131,000 for MTEF’s central-city youth program.  The event, titled “We believe a tennis ball could change the world”, brought together many special guests, including supporters, partners, local dignitaries and community leaders.  Evening highlights included emcee Steve “The Homer” True, honorary chair Kris Barrett, the 2007 TEAM video, awards presentations and entertainment from one of the area’s most popular groups, The Eddie Butts Band.

Putting together a successful 400+ attendee event is no easy task.  It requires countless hours of work from staff and numerous committee volunteers.  A special thanks goes out to Tennis Ball Co-chairs, Christy Beckmann and Nancy Massart, who along with their Tennis Ball Committee, were able to increase the net profit by $59,000 from 2006, a 81% increase. All this was done for one reason – to improve the lives of underserved Milwaukee children, one child at a time.

The other half of the equation to a successful Ball is the attendees – you, the people who believe strongly enough in our mission to attend and support our cause.  For without all of you there would be no Ball, and thus no foundation.   Thanks to your support momentum is building.  Name recognition and visibility is increasing throughout all aspects of the community, not just the tennis community.

Plans are already being made for the 2008 gala.  If you have attended in the past, I hope you’ll make plans to do so again.  If you haven’t been able to attend, I hope you mark down Friday, September 26, 2008 on your calendar.  We look forward to your attendance and support to help make the 2008 Tennis Ball a continued success.

Sincerely,

Jay Massart

Fall TEAM Program

Like our summer program, this fall’s TEAM After-School program will be something new from past offerings. The program has been refined and restructured so that it runs the length of a school year and is open to any child living in the city of Milwaukee. Our Summer Tennis and Reading program was used as a feeder system to attract talented, motivated, deserving individuals, 3-9th grade, for an intensive academic, life skill and tennis program. Summer site leaders assisted in selecting the most qualified children. The invitational-only program includes parental support, attendance/report card requirements and a full school year commitment.

Community Tennis

The Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) umbrella community tennis association whose mission is to make Milwaukee a better place to live, work, play and learn through tennis. MTEF assists in the delivery, support, and integration of tennis programs in this community. We work to offer meaningful programs and activities which are open and accessible to everyone. For the past five years, MTEF has been fueled by approximately 250 local volunteers annually, who support events such as the NJTL Rally, MTEF Tennis Ball and our TEAM program. Our goal is to offer events and programs that facilitate an increased interest in the sport of tennis and to nurture new program sites in facilities that otherwise would not have the opportunity to offer tennis.
